SEIU and NAGE Members Made Critical Difference on Election Day

SEIU and NAGE members and staff made a huge difference on Election Day as they worked together throughout the nation to elect Barack Obama as the nation’s 44th president. Working together, we registered more than 100,000 new voters, made millions of phone calls, and canvassed in hundreds of neighborhoods. THANK YOU to every member, staff, friend, and family who worked so hard for working families!
SEIU and NAGE members and staff engaged union voters and the general public one-on-one throughout the election. Together they:
- knocked on 3,390,796 doors;
- made 16,537,523 phone calls;
- sent 5,125,378 pieces of mail;
- registered 102,206 new voters;
- helped 10,992 voters vote early or by absentee;
Members increased their commitment to the NAGE and SEIU Committee on Political Education (COPE) fund through:
- contributing an average of $4.22 per month per COPE contributor. This represents an increase of 25 percent over the past year.
- an additional 4,014 new COPE contributors enrolled at an average contribution level of $5.03 per month.
More than 3,000 NAGE and SEIU members and staff were deployed across 20 states to help win for working families.
The Bush administration was a disaster for working families, but the American spirit of progress never wavered. This is our moment, and this election marks a new beginning. We have a chance to put America on a new path, and starting tonight, we will help with the transition, establish a clear agenda to rebuild the middle class, fix our national healthcare system, give workers the freedom to join a union without intimidation and hold every politician accountable for the promises they have made to the hardworking families of this nation who tonight have changed history.
